“(There Is) No Utopia embodies ideas about community and what that looks like through struggle. The project depicts the aftermath of war and ongoing journey toward freedom for all peoples. It’s not always pretty or ideal. I have anxieties about what a future looks like when images of torture and genocide ring true all over the world as they did before without our 24/7 access. But then I’m reminded that in spite of all the brutality, the PEOPLE are on the ground making things happen regardless. We continue to find ways to build. The parenthesis in the title is that exactly – how there can be a sense of freedom, if you’re in the right spaces and with the right mindset. But if it’s not toward global liberation?
